Counselling Information for Pupils, Parents and Carers

What We Do

We offer an Early Interventions Service to emotionally distressed young people. Our two dimensional goal focused integrative therapy firstly provides an opportunity to cope with any current or long standing distress and secondly ensures learned skills and strategies that will aid any future challenges. This leads to enhanced self-esteem, self-efficacy, resilience, improved physical health, higher academia, achievements, raised prospect's and earnings potential, stronger communication skills and improved relationships, which impacts on the wider community and family and peer relationships. This will assist the young to reach their potential and be equipped with learned cognitive coping skills for life.

How long will it take?

If the school has a waiting list and it may be a while before we can get to see you, but we will do our best to make it as quick as possible.  We will also do our very best to help you when your name does come to the top of the list.  You can see the counsellor for up to 12 sessions but this can be extended if it is felt longer is needed but your counsellor will review with you every four to six weeks to check where you feel you are up to. It will always be your decision whether you want to see the counsellor and when you want to stop coming.  We usually see you once a week but this is flexible.

What if I feel that I can’t wait much longer?

If you feel that you cannot wait please either inform a member of staff or ask to speak to one of the counsellors.  They will do their best to help.

Parents and Carers

We are available to meet with you so that we can explain what will happen during counselling, and so that you can have an opportunity to see who will be talking to your son/daughter or the young person that you are responsible for. You will also be able to ask any questions and discuss any worries that you have. We can meet face to face or speak over the phone.

If you would like this then please request it on the contact sheet, if you don’t then this is fine too, but we would like to know that you are happy for the young person to come and ask that you sign a consent form.

With Out Help!!

Many young people are without the means to cope with emotional distress. Early intervention's help to prevent a roundabout of decline  emotionally and academically, that includes poor behaviours, low academic achievements, truancy, exclusion, substance abuse and involvements in crime

Where

We are able to provide our services off site, but find that young people often feel more comfortable in the familiar surroundings of the school.  We are happy to make regular appointments at the school, all we ask is a quiet and confidential space is offered.

All our counsellors have been subject to enhanced DBS checks, and engage in regular clinical supervision.

We are all individual members of the British Association Of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, and follow their ethical framework for safe practice. We are covered by all indemnities.
